Spicy Matar Chaat/vibsk-12

1. | Yellow Peas | : | 200 g |
2. | Onions | : | 2-3 medium size |
3. | Tomatoes | 2-3 medium size | |
4. | Green Chillies | : | 200 |
5. | Fresh Coriander Leaves | : | 1 small bunch |
6. | Tamarind | : | 10 g |
7. | Red Chilli Powder | : | 1-2 tsp |
8. | Roasted Coriander Powder | : | 2 tsp |
9. | Roasted Cumin Powder | : | 2 tsp |
10. | Salt | : | To Taste |
11. | Asafoetida (Hing) | : | ½ tsp |
12. | Lemon | : | 1 |
13. | Green Chillies | : | 1-2 (optional) |
Method :
- Soak yellow peas for 6-7 hours.
- Rinse & put them in pressure cooker. Add water. Not too much of water, just a little above the peas level.
- Add asafoetida & salt.
- Put pressure-cooker on high flame.
- After one whistle put flame on low & boil for 8-10 minutes.
- After 10 minutes take the pressure cooker off the flame. Open the lid after all the inside pressure is released. Press the pea & check if the pea is boiled till soft or not. If boiled till soft keep aside.
- Soak tamarind in hot water for 1 hour. After 1 hour, mash the tamarind & rinse to separate the pulp & seeds. Keep aside.
- Finely chop tomatoes, onions, coriander leaves & green chillies. Keep aside.
- In a bowl put the boiled peas. Add chopped finely chopped tomatoes, onions, coriander leaves, green chillies, red chilli powder, roasted coriander powder, roasted cumin powder, asafoetida, tamarind water & salt. Mix well.
- Add lemon juice. Mix well.
Garnish with roasted cumin powder & fresh coriander leaves. Serve with kulcha (soft Indian bread)/bread/paratha.
